Ritigala is is the highest mountain in the north-central dry plains of Sri Lanka. After you will proceed towards the Kala Wewa which is a lake body fed water by the historical Yoda Canal, an ancient marvel in architecture.

Experience:

The North Central Plains of Sri Lanka is home to many ancient heritage sites that reverberate the culture and grandeur that once the island possessed. This tour which spans for about 6 hours takes you on a journey that highlights some of the history and architectural elegance that made the island flourish for centuries prior to its invasions. We recommend that you put on your walking shoes and be ready for a day full of exploring. It is advised that you are moderately fit and willing to walk and climb. You will be transported in an air-conditioned vehicle while the services of an English speaking guide will be included to the tour.

Sigiriya

We start off the journey from your pick up point in Sigiriya and we will at first pass by the Lion’s Rock which is more commonly known as the Sigiriya Fortress. The views of this magnificent stone structure and Palace complex along with the surrounding landscaped gardens will give you the opportunity to marvel at the grandeur and listen to the folklore that surrounds it.

Ritigala

Located about 12 km away from Habarana, Ritigala is the highest peak in the North central province of Sri Lanka and also the first stop of the tour. It was declared a strict nature reserve with dense jungles, waterways, as well as inhabitants like wild elephants, leopards and bears. A hidden gem, the nature reserve offers a unique experience to history buffs and nature enthusiasts alike with its ancient ruins, serene atmosphere and the diverse flora and fauna. You can hike through the lush greenery, explore the ancient Buddhist monasteries and experience nature at its best.

Namal Uyana

Finally we drive to the Namal Uyana which is known to be the largest iron wood forest and pink quartz mountain in Asia. These massive iron wood trees are endemic to our island while this site covers over 260 acres. The pink quartz here boasts of a history of over 500 million years while the park itself had been a sanctuary for Buddhist monks during the 8th century . When you walk through the shaded area through the massive iron wood trees, you will come across a few ruins as well. A stroll through the park and a light trek up the quartz hill will enlighten you more about our beautiful heritage.

We will drop you back at your pick up point once the tour is complete. Please note that the entrance tickets to certain locations are not included in the tour package while it may be an additional expense.

Kala Wewa

Our next stop will be the ancient Kala Wewa located in Anuradhapura while it is a reservoir complex that feeds thousands of acres of paddy fields in the surrounding areas. Walk along the banks of the wewa and admire the 12 meter high statue of Lord Buddha overlooking the tank.
